Successful Laparoscopic Gallbladder Removal Surgery on a 27-Week Pregnant Woman at Ziaeean Hospital
Dr. Seyed Hossein Haji Mirzaei, a fellowship-trained laparoscopic surgeon at Ziaeean Hospital, successfully performed a gallbladder removal surgery on a 36-year-old woman who was 27 weeks pregnant. The patient, who had been suffering from persistent abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting since the third month of pregnancy, was diagnosed with gallbladder inflammation and stones.
According to the Ziaeean Hospital news portal, a successful laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery was performed on a 36-year-old woman who was 27 weeks pregnant on Tuesday, August 2, 1403. The patient, who had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting since the third month of pregnancy, was admitted to the emergency department a month ago. Following an evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with gallbladder inflammation and stones and underwent surgery performed by Dr. Seyed Hossein Haji Mirzaei, a fellowship-trained laparoscopic surgeon.
It is worth noting that gallbladder surgery during this stage of pregnancy is typically performed using open surgery due to the large size of the uterus and fetus, which poses significant risks to both the mother and fetus, including an increased risk of miscarriage. However, the laparoscopic approach reduced the patient's hospital stay, minimized postoperative pain due to small incisions, and lowered the risks to both the mother and fetus. The patient's and fetus's general condition was good, and both were in full health following the surgery. They were discharged from the hospital two days after the procedure with the approval of the attending physician.
