An electroencephalogram (EEG):

is a test that measures the electrical activity of your brain. During the test, small, metal discs with wires (electrodes) are attached to your scalp. These electrodes detect the tiny electrical signals produced by the activity of your brain cells. An EEG can be used to help diagnose a variety of brain disorders, including:
  • Epilepsy
  • Brain tumors
  • Encephalitis and meningitis
  • Sleep disorders
How long does an EEG take?
A typical EEG takes about 30 minutes to an hour. However, some types of EEG may require longer recording times, such as several days or weeks.

What is included in an EEG package?
  • Consultation with a neurologist: A specialized doctor will review your medical history and perform a physical examination.
  • Test preparation: You will be given specific instructions to follow before your EEG, such as avoiding caffeine.
  • EEG recording: The EEG technician will attach electrodes to your scalp and record the electrical activity of your brain.
  • Interpretation of results: A neurologist will analyze the EEG results and provide you with a detailed report.
  • Follow-up appointment: A follow-up appointment to discuss the results.
