Orthopaedic Care

Orthopaedic Providers Throughout the Triangle

When joint pain and discomfort stop you from doing what you love, it’s time to see an orthopaedic specialist. Your pain may result from a sprain, strain, or ligament tear that needs immediate attention; the wear and tear associated with arthritis; or a related medical condition. Ziaeian Hospital orthopaedic specialists use the full range of treatments to return you to the activities you enjoy.

Trigger Finger

Trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a condition that causes a finger or thumb to lock into a bent position and then snap straight. This is due to inflammation of the tendon and its sheath. The exact cause of trigger finger is unknown, but overuse of the hand, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and pregnancy can contribute to its development.
Symptoms of Trigger Finger
  • Pain at the base of the finger or a lump in the palm
  • Finger locking or catching
  • A clicking sensation when moving the finger
  • Trigger Finger Surgery
If non-surgical treatments such as rest, physical therapy, and corticosteroid injections are ineffective, surgery may be recommended. Trigger finger surgery is a simple procedure that is typically performed on an outpatient basis. During surgery, the surgeon makes a small incision in the palm and releases the tendon sheath to allow the tendon to move freely.

Pinning and Plating

Pinning and plating are common orthopedic procedures used to repair broken bones. These methods involve using pins, plates, or screws to hold the broken pieces of bone in place and promote healing.

Types of Pins and Plates

  •  Internal pins: These pins are placed inside the bone and are typically made of titanium.
  •  External plates: These plates are placed on the surface of the bone and are attached with screws.
  •  External pins: These pins are attached to the bone from outside the body. They are used to stabilize open fractures or fractures that require traction.

Removal of Pins and Plates

Once the fracture has healed completely, the pins and plates can be removed. This procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.

Estimated Stay in Iran

  • Pre-operative: 3 days (for tests and doctor's visit)
  • Post-operative: 1 week (to ensure recovery and receive aftercare instructions)

Hospitalization

Hospitalization duration depends on the type of surgery and the complexity of the fracture and can range from a few hours to several days.

Follow-up

One follow-up visit with the doctor is scheduled one month after surgery.

Additional Services

  •  Physical therapy (if needed)

Total Hip Replacement (THR) or Hip Arthroplasty

Total hip replacement, also known as hip arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to replace a damaged hip joint with an artificial implant. This is commonly done to alleviate pain caused by arthritis or certain hip fractures.

Pre-operative Tests
CT scan or MRI of the hip

Blood and urine tests (if required by the physician)

Follow up: 2 times

Stay Duration:
 Hospital stay: 3 -7 days
 In Iran: 1 month
 Recovery time: 6 -12 weeks

(Recovery from a total hip replacement typically involves several weeks of rehabilitation. Patients can expect to undergo physical therapy to regain strength and mobility. Weight-bearing restrictions may be imposed initially to protect the new joint. Activities that may need to be avoided include crossing the legs, bending too far forward, and excessive twisting. Full recovery can take several months, but most patients experience significant pain relief and improved function.)

Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used.

Knee Replacement Surgery (Knee Arthroplasty)

Knee arthroplasty, often referred to as a total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure designed to alleviate pain and improve the function of a severely damaged knee joint. During this procedure, the damaged bone and cartilage from the thighbone, shinbone, and sometimes the kneecap are removed and replaced with an artificial joint made of metal alloy, plastic, and polymer.

Pre-operative Tests
CT scan or MRI of the knee

Blood and urine tests (if required by the physician)

Follow-up2 times

Stay Duration:
 Hospital stay: 2-3 days
Total stay in Iran: 2-3 weeks
 Recovery time: 6-12 weeks

 Anesthesia: Regional or spinal

Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

Carpal tunnel release surgery involves cutting the transverse carpal ligament to relieve pressure on the median nerve. This surgical procedure is commonly performed to treat carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) when symptoms such as numbness, muscle weakness, or permanent atrophy (not just intermittent) persist despite other treatments.

Pre-Operative tests:
Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS)

Stay Duration:

 Hospital stay: 1 day
Total stay in Iran: 3 days
 Recovery time: approximately 2 weeks

 Anesthesia: General
Follow-up:1 time

Knee Deformity surgery

A knee deformity occurs when the bones of the knee and lower leg are misaligned. This can make your knees look bowed or knock-kneed. Over time, this misalignment can put extra strain on your knee joint. In some cases, surgery may be needed to correct the problem.

Pre-Operative tests:
MRI or CT scan of the leg

Stay Duration:

Hospital stay: 1-2 days
Total stay in Iran: 3 days
 Recovery time: 2-4 weeks

 Anesthesia: General
