Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows for a direct examination of the large intestine (colon) and rectum. A colonoscope , a tool similar to an endoscope, is inserted through the anus to visualize the entire length of the colon. Colonoscopy is used not only to diagnose conditions like ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, colorectal polyps, and colon cancer but also to collect tissue samples (biopsies) and even remove small polyps.
